DESCRIPTION:\nAbout the Presentation\n \nContinuing care retirement communities (“CCRCs”) provide their elderly residents the opportunity to “age in place.”  Residents move to CCRCs when they can live independently, and may receive assisted living and skilled nursing, generally at the same location, when their health declines or they suffer an injury or serious illness.  This presentation will provide an overview of common arrangements offered by CCRCs, common legal disputes that arise between CCRCs and residents, and some of the financial risks of moving to CCRCs. \n \n \n \nAbout our Presenter\n \nGlenn Harris is a local attorney with over 30 years of complex litigation and transactional experience.  Around 10 years ago, he was retained to represent several elderly residents of a CCRC.  He sought to hire an expert to advise him, but could not find one with knowledge of CCRCs.  CCRC law is novel, and there are very few published decisions interpreting the relatively new statutes.  Since then, Glenn has represented many residents of various CCRCs and worked with non-profit organizations attempting to help the growing number of CCRC residents who need assistance.  Glenn received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law.\n
